DESCRIPTIONS:

Parish Lay Trustees: In the Diocese of Ogdensburg and throughout New York State each parish has its own civil corporation. The Bishop, Vicar General and Pastor of each Church Corporation under the guidelines New York State Law appoint lay Trustees. This form of civil Roman Catholic Church governance has remained basically the same in New York State since the Civil War. Lay Trustees serve a one-year term. Parish Lay Trustees are ex-officio members of the Parish Finance Council and Parish Pastoral Council.

The St. Stephen’s Parish Trustees are invited by the Pastor to serve the Parish for 1 year terms each. Terms are overlapping to maintain continuity. The Trustees meet at least 1 time a year and as needed.

Pastoral Council: “The Pastoral Council is an advisory body of parishioners who assist the Pastor and Parish in providing leadership and direction in formulation goals and objectives of pastoral activity in the parish.” ( Diocesan Handbook)

The St. Stephen’s Pastoral Council members are invited by the Pastor to serve the Parish for 2 year terms each. Terms are overlapping to maintain continuity. The committee meets 4 times a year.

The Building and Grounds Committee, a sub-committee of the Pastoral Council, assists the parish in establishing goals for upkeep and maintenance of parish property.

The St. Stephen’s Building and Grounds committee members are invited by the Pastor to serve the Parish. Terms are varied and overlap to maintain continuity.

The committee meets as needed throughout the year.

The Finance Council   “Assists the Pastor in making decisions in the administration of the goods of the parish. Members are appointed by the Pastor and help to formulate the parish budget and review the parish financial report.” ( Diocesan Handbook)  

The St. Stephen’s Finance Council members are invited by the Pastor to serve the Parish for 3 year terms each. Terms are overlapping to maintain continuity.

The committee meets 4 times a year.

Faith Formation Committee: This committee is designed to support and give oversight to faith formation in its varying forms within the parish. This is an advisory committee which periodically evaluates the faith formation programs offered, and makes recommendations to the Pastor and Catechetical Leader.

This committee directly supports the position of Catechetical Leader in making appropriate decisions and recommendations for the Center’s efforts. Appointed by the Pastor the committee meets four times a year.

The St. Stephen’s Faith Formation Committee members are invited by the Pastor to serve the Parish as needed. Terms are overlapping to maintain continuity.

The committee meets at least 4 times a year.
